In-Home Veterinary Care for Exotic Pets

Exotic pets often have very specific needs when it comes to health, diet, environment, and handling. Routt Home Vet understands that traveling to a clinic can be stressful for both pet and owner — especially when your companion is a bird, reptile, or small mammal.

Services for Exotic Pets

Mobile exotic veterinarian services focus on preventive health, comfort, and quality of life. These include:

Routine exams are essential for detecting early signs of illness, ensuring proper growth and development, and tracking health over time. Dr. Hillemeyer assesses weight, hydration, respiratory function, skin or feather condition, and more — tailoring care to your species and pet’s individual history.

Proper husbandry (how your pet is housed, fed, and cared for) is the cornerstone of exotic pet health. Routt Home Vet provides personalized recommendations for:

  • Temperature and humidity control
  • Enclosure setup and substrate
  • Lighting and UVB needs
  • Diet and nutrition
  • Social interaction and enrichment

Small changes in husbandry can have a major impact on long-term health.

Overgrown nails or beaks can lead to discomfort, injury, or behavioral issues. Dr. Hillemeyer offers gentle, species-appropriate trimming for birds, reptiles, and small mammals to help maintain mobility, prevent pain, and keep your pet feeling their best.

Types of Exotic Pets We Care For
