Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Have questions about how mobile veterinary care works? You’re not alone. Below are answers to some of the most common questions from pet owners.

FAQs

What areas do you serve?

Routt Home Vet serves pets and their families across Routt County, CO, including Steamboat Springs, Hayden, Oak Creek, Clark, and surrounding rural areas. If you’re unsure whether we travel to your location, visit the Service Area page or give Dr. Hillemeyer a call.

How does mobile veterinary care work?

Routt Home Vet brings the vet clinic to you! This allows your pet to be seen at home in a familiar, stress-free environment. Dr. Hillemeyer carries portable equipment and supplies to perform a variety of services, including wellness exams, vaccinations, diagnostic imaging, pain management, and more.

Can I schedule multiple pets for the same visit?

Yes. Multiple pets can be examined and treated during a single home visit when appropriate. Advance notice of the number of animals to be seen allows for adequate scheduling and preparation to ensure each pet receives thorough, individualized care.

Do you require forms before appointments?

Yes. New clients are asked to complete the New Client Form prior to the first visit. For surgical procedures or euthanasia, signed consent forms are also required. All forms can be accessed and submitted through the Forms section of the website.

What types of pets do you care for?

Routt Home Vet provides veterinary care for dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, and small mammals (such as rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, ferrets, and rats). Learn more in the Exotic Pet Services page.

Do you offer emergency services?

No. Routt Home Vet is not an emergency provider or full-service veterinary hospital. However, non-life-threatening urgent concerns — such as limping, minor wounds, or possible urinary tract infections — may be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. When needed, assistance is provided in coordinating care with local emergency clinics or regional specialty hospitals.

How should I prepare for a housecall visit?

Make sure your pet is accessible in a safe, confined, quiet area (especially for cats and exotic pets), and that Dr. Cindi has space to set up equipment if needed. For dogs, having a leash or harness ready is helpful. You’ll receive specific instructions when your appointment is confirmed.

What payment methods do you accept?

Accepted payment methods include cash, checks, PayPal, Venmo, and most major credit and debit cards. Payment plans are not currently available. Itemized invoices can be provided to assist with pet insurance reimbursement.
